First, came the bad news. Then, came the consoling text.
During his interview with Carolina reporters on Wednesday, Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury shared a story about being fired as the head coach at Texas Tech. It happened in 2018 after losing to Baylor 35-24 and then-Bears coach Matt Rhule.
Rhule, who is now the head coach of the Panthers, reached out via a text message to tell Kingsbury he was sorry it happened.
“He’s a great guy and I was sad for him when he got fired,” Rhule said during his Wednesday press conference with local reporters.
