Cardinals wouldn't have beaten Seahawks without a strong, second-half defensive surge

It was shaping up like another Seahawks’ shakedown at State Farm Stadium on Sunday night.

The Seahawks and their MVP-candidate quarterback, Russell Wilson, were rolling over the Cardinals. By halftime, Seattle had already amassed 327 yards in total offense, averaging a staggering 10.5 yards per play. In many ways, it felt like the Cardinals were fortunate to only be trailing by 10 points, 27-17.

But something happened when the Cardinals’ defense re-emerged from the locker room. They put their foot down. Yes, defensive coordinator Vance Joseph made a few necessary adjustments, saving his best for last when it mattered most, but it boiled down to playing with a vengeance.
