Cardinals' Welter joins 1st female NFL official

Saturday night’s preseason game between the Cardinals and Chiefs won’t count in the standings, but it was significant for reasons beyond the scoreboard.

Line judge Sarah Thomas became the first full-time female official to work an NFL game.

And Cardinals coach intern Jen Welter became the first woman to coach players in an NFL game.

Thomas did have a call overturned in the first half. She ruled the Chiefs had completed a pass for a first down. Cardinals coach Bruce Arians challenged the call and it was overturned.
