The Cardinals' depth chart at running back became clear on Monday with the news that Andre Ellington has re-signed with the team.
Ellington, an unrestricted free agent, agreed to a one-year contract. Financial terms were not immediately available.
Ellington was one of three Cardinals running backs on the free-agent market. Chris Johnson has said he is looking for opportunities elsewhere, and Stepfan Taylor remains available.
The Cardinals now have David Johnson, Ellington, Kerwynn Williams and Elijhaa Penny under contract for the upcoming season.
Coach Bruce Arians has used Ellington in a hybrid role over the past four years, and Ellington often has lined up as a receiver.
