Cardinals RB David Johnson on absence for controversial third-and-2: 'I missed a blitz'

The Cardinals' offense faltered in many ways during the second half of Sunday's 16-14 loss to the Bears, but one particular playcall in the fourth quarter stood out.

On a critical third and 2 following the two-minute warning, the Cardinals elected to hand it off to rookie running back Chase Edmonds. As star running back David Johnson watched from the sideline, Edmonds failed to convert and lost 3 yards in the process.

Immediately after the game, coach Steve Wilks stood by the playcall, as did the players in the locker room.

On Monday, Johnson offered some additional insight as to why he was not on the field.
