Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks did not offer the defensive coordinator job to James Bettcher, contrary to a recent report, according to several sources.
Wilks planned all along to hire Panthers linebackers coach Al Holcomb.
Bettcher, the Cardinals' defensive coordinator the past three seasons, wasn’t likely to accept the job if offered, anyway.
Bettcher was passed over for the head-coaching job in favor of someone with a defensive background. Both sides realized it was better if Bettcher moved on.
And he did. Bettcher is now the Giants' defensive coordinator.
