BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University wrestling made program history on Tuesday, ranking No. 22 in the nation in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll after going 2-1 last week.
The Mountaineers (5-1, 1-0 SoCon) moved up one spot to their highest-ever ranking in the major poll, now being the sole member of the Southern Conference in the Top 25 after Virginia knocked Chattanooga from No. 24 to third-highest in the “others receiving votes” category. Appalachian is also one of only four schools in the rankings to have at least five wins and no more than one loss, joining Nebraska, Rutgers and Drexel.
