ST. LOUIS — Appalachian State University wrestling finished day one of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship on Thursday, having all four wrestlers advanced to the second day of action.
The Mountaineers were led by Denzel Dejournette at the heavyweight division as he won a huge major decision match over Oregon State’s Cody Crawford, 11-1, to move to round two of the championship matches. Dejournette then went toe-to-toe against Minnesota’s Michael Kroells where he fell in a heartbreaking double overtime 5-3 decision.
In the 125-pound division, Vito Pasone fell in by technical fall to open up against SIUE’s Freddie Rodriguez, but would get a victory in the consolation bracket due to medical forfeit by Penn State to move on to day two.
