BOONE, N.C. — Despite overcast skies and the threat of rain for most the day, the weather let up just enough for women’s soccer to take the field twice for the first practices of the 2016 season on Wednesday. Since every student-athlete on the team passed their fitness test, the team immediately got into playing.
After a 6 a.m. practice in the morning that consisted of high-energy transition style games with numbers up situations and a small-sided 7v7 tournament, the Mountaineers got after it again 12 hours later at the Appalachian Soccer Stadium, splitting into two groups – a group of 11v11 scrimmaging and a group practicing sets.
