Women’s soccer falls short in first exhibition

After dominating for 87 minutes, App State women’s soccer ultimately fell 1-0 in their annual first preseason exhibition game against Western Carolina on Thursday night at Ted Mackorell Stadium.

Looking at the final stat sheet, you would have thought the Mountaineers won the game, out-shooting the Catamounts 21-5, but a header goal from Catamounts Kyla Moncrief in the 87th minute was all they needed to beat the Mountaineers.

“I thought we played really great soccer for about 87 minutes,” head coach Sarah Strickland said. “And for about three minutes, we struggled for a little bit and Western’s known for their set pieces, that’s how they score goals.
