BOONE, N.C. -- Appalachian State volleyball dropped a tough 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, 15-9) decision to N.C. State in the finale of the Appalachian Invitational on Saturday evening.
After four sets, the two teams found themselves deadlocked at 2-2 and went to a deciding fifth frame.
Back-to-back kills from Emma Longley early in the fifth broke a 3-3 tie and gave the Mountaineers (3-7) a 5-3 lead. The Wolfpack (4-5) countered with the next five points to jump in front 8-6. Following a kill from Daryn Armstrong, N.C. State scored four consecutive points to build a 12-7 lead.
