UFC star Conor McGregor announced his unexpected retirement from mixed martial arts on Monday, in a post on social media.
The announcement came just hours after McGregor, 30, told "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" that he and the UFC were negotiating a potential return to the Octagon in July.
Hey guys quick announcement, I've decided to retire from the sport formally known as "Mixed Martial Art" today.
I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition.
I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement.
