BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State junior pitcher Colin Schmid was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 13th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday.
Schmid, a left-handed starter from New Bern, N.C., went No. 393 overall in the draft. He ranks third in App State baseball history with 224 career strikeouts, tied for fifth with 248.1 career innings and sixth with 41 career starts.
"We are extremely excited for Colin!" second-year App State head coach Kermit Smith said. "This is a day that every kid dreams about growing up, and he has worked incredibly hard to fulfill this goal.
