RALEIGH N.C. - A three-run first inning got the day started for the App State Mountaineers, and Kaylie Northrop kept the Gaels' bats silent in App State's 7-0 win over Iona in the Wolfpack Classic on Saturday afternoon.
Five of the seven RBIs the Mountaineers (6-4) had on the day came from the first three batters in the lineup. Kayt Houston led the way, tallying two hits, one of which was a home run, and two RBIs on the day. Peyton Darnell had a similar performance, adding two hits and two RBIs.
