TROY, Al. — Three Appalachian State University baseball pitchers threw a combined four walks and hit one batter in the bottom of the ninth inning, allowing Troy to tie the game and send it into extra innings. The Mountaineers (8-24, 3-12 Sun Belt) would fall in the 12th inning on a wild pitch.
Colin Schmid pitched the best game of his young career on Sunday. Schmid threw 6.2 scoreless innings and retired 13-straight batters starting with the third out in the second inning through the third out in the sixth.
While Schmid and the other App State pitchers only struck out three Trojan (20-13, 6-6 Sun belt) batter, the Mountaineer defense played excellent.
