BOONE, N.C. – Junior Meghan Smart's two goals propelled Appalachian State University field hockey to a 3-0 victory over Davidson in Sunday's preseason opener at Brandon and Erica M. Adcock Field.
Smart registered the Mountaineers' first goal with less than five minutes remaining in the first quarter to give App State a 1-0 halftime advantage. The junior then doubled her tally in the contest's final period to extend Appalachian's lead.
Less than two minutes after Smart secured a brace, sophomore Anna Smarrelli recorded App State's final goal of regulation on a breakaway opportunity.
