Men's Hoops Toppled by Tennessee in Valiant Effort

KNOXVILLE –– After withstanding a 21-0 run early in the first half, Appalachian State University men’s basketball did not surrender on Tuesday night inside Thompson-Boling Arena. Appalachian closed to within just seven points at 99-92 with 58.0 seconds remaining, but eventually fell to Tennessee 103-94.

With 6:28 left in regulation and Tennessee’s Grant Williams connecting on a layup, UT led the Mountaineers (0-2) 92-69. Instead of coasting to a win, the Volunteers watched as the Black and Gold instituted a 23-7 relentless run that saw them close the lead to just seven points.

The run was sparked by back-to-back threes from the game’s leading scorers Patrick Good and Ronshad Shabazz.
