LELAND, N.C. – Led by sophomore Tripp Summerlin's runner-up individual finish, the Appalachian State men's golf team placed fourth out of 13 teams at the Cape Fear National Intercollegiate, held Sunday-Monday at the Cape Fear National course.

Summerlin, a native of Summerfield, N.C., used an opening-round 68 (4 under par) to take an early lead in the tournament. He finished at 2 under with a three-round score of 214 (68-72-74), and if not for a bogey on the 17th hole Monday, he may have captured individual medalist honors. VCU's Sachin Kumar won the tournament by one shot over Summerlin at 3 under (213).
