JONESBORO, Ark. –– Appalachian State University men’s basketball withstood 33 total fouls and four foul outs and posted three scorers in double digits, but fell to Arkansas State by one point on Saturday night, 79-78.
The Mountaineers (6-15, 1-9 Sun Belt) led for 26:39 of the contest with Ronshad Shabazz leading the way with 19 points. Tyrell Johnson finished with 16, while Craig Hinton, who earned his first career start, notched his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Black and Gold took a 39-37 lead into halftime over the Red Wolves (17-6, 8-2 Sun Belt), but would be outscored 42-39 in the second period to fall narrowly by one point.
