BOONE, N.C. - App State field hockey dropped game one of a season-series finale against Longwood Friday.
The Mountaineers (7-8, 4-7 MAC) paced the Lancers stride-for-stride in total shots with 10 each. However, Longwood (7-5, 5-5 MAC) would use a four-minute offensive explosion late in the second quarter to pull away from App State and clinch a 3-0 victory.
After the break, App State's defense core held the Lancers to just three shots the rest of the day. In fact, Allison Corey earned her first defensive save of the season.
Anna Smarrelli led the offensive attack for the Black and Gold by recording three shots.
