Goalkeeper Rachel Gaines made four saves before the Dukes opened the scoring in the 29th minute on a goal by Alicia Cooperman. In the final five minutes of the first half, the Mountaineers kept much of the action on JMU's side of the field. Michelle Taylor had two shots blocked and Kaley Selner had a shot saved by the Dukes goalkeeper to end the half 1-0.
