BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State sophomore Darrynton Evans, who returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown at Penn State, was named the Sun Belt Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.
The return helped tie the game after the ninth-ranked Nittany Lions scored a touchdown on their opening drive, and App State took a fourth-quarter lead before falling 45-38 in overtime. Able to show off his 4.37 speed in the 40-yard dash, Evans finished the game with 149 all-purpose thanks to his three returns for 130 yards, two catches for 10 yards and three rushes for 9 yards.
