BOONE, N.C. - A late Tess Cairney goal lifted App State women's soccer to a 1-0 win over Troy on Friday afternoon at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
The Mountaineers are now 2-3 and 2-1 in the Sun Belt while Troy falls to 0-2 overall and in conference play.
App State picks up back-to-back shutout wins for the first time since the 2014 season, giving Kerry Eagleston a second straight clean sheet.
Both teams were tied 0-0 with just three minutes left in regulation until Cairney sent a corner kick into the box, deflecting off a Troy defender into the back of the net for her first goal of the season and second-career game-winner.
