In recognition of Black History Month, App State Athletics is featuring different student-athletes and the people that came before them that made them who they are today. Today's feature is on A'Lea Gilbert, a redshirt freshman on the women's basketball team.
Who was your role model growing up?
My role model growing up was both my mother and father. My father's work ethic in his sport showed me every day what hard work looks like. He never took days off and continued to instill that in me as a young child. My mother taught me how to be a strong competitor but also a lady at the same time.
