BOONE, N.C. — Head baseball coach Kermit Smith and two senior pitchers — Luke Watts and Reed Howell — met with reporters Monday as Appalachian State held a baseball/softball media day in the Appalachian Athletics Center.
With 13 returning players and 18 newcomers, the Mountaineers open the 2018 season on Feb. 16 with a three-game series at 2017 NCAA tournament participant UNCG.
"What I've witnessed, our newcomers didn't come in with a big ego, and I felt like our returners really just accepted them right out of the gates," said Smith, who is entering his second season in Boone.
