FAIRFAX, Va. — Appalachian State University wrestling competed in the 2016 University Freestyle National Duals on Saturday at George Mason University. The Mountaineers won their pool C bracket and advanced into the gold championship bracket where they finished fourth.
Appalachian competed in pool C against ACC foe Virgina and American. The Mountaineers dropped their opening match to American in a close, 5-4, battle. After UVA defeated American in the second match, App State wrestled the Cavaliers for a spot in the gold bracket.
App State took six of the nine matches against Virginia to claim the top spot in pool C.
