MORGANTON, N.C. – Appalachian State claimed the University Cup with a 4-3 match play win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday at Mimosa Hills Golf Club. The two teams played seven matches with a male and female on each team.
App State’s Patrick Moriarty and Emily Stinson came up with a 3 & 2 win over G-W’s Chris Jones and Sarah Bertram at the No. 1 spot to help the Mountaineers clinch the win. Zach Joines and Hannah Craver (3 & 2), Walter Brinker/Patricia Thompson (1 up), and Tripp Summerlin and Melany Chong (4 & 3) all picked up wins for App State on the day.
