App State Makes Late Stand to Win SBC Opener

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Appalachian State struggled to score in the first half. It needed a last-second defensive stand to survive.

With quarterback Taylor Lamb igniting a comeback by throwing several chain-moving completions to true freshman receivers and senior safety A.J. Howard making a tackle at the 1-yard line on the final play, the Mountaineers rallied to claim a 20-13 victory at Texas State in their Sun Belt Conference opener Saturday night.

The Bobcats recovered a fumble at their 1-yard line with 2:26 remaining and converted three third downs before reaching the App State 7 with 10 seconds left.
