App State Falls to No. 4 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's tennis (0-1) suffered a 7-0 setback in the season opener to the No.4-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels (2-0) Sunday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

The Apps couldn't pickup the set in the defeat, as UNC has five players ranked in the top 100 including the No. 6-ranked player in the country in Hayley Carter.

In singles competition, Clare Cox fell to Carter 6-0,6-0 in the one slot while Melissa Machado fell to No. 68 Jessie Aney, 6-0, 6-1, at the two position.
