Ducks give up two late goals on mistakes and fall to the Stars, 4-2, in opener

Randy Carlyle’s second term as coach of the Ducks began with a loss Thursday, immediately testing his resolve to be mellow and calmer than he was in his previous term.

Dallas forwards Antoine Roussel and Adam Cracknell took advantage of defensive lapses by the Ducks to score third-period goals and lead the Stars to a 4-2 victory at American Airlines Center in the season opener for both teams.

The Ducks, who are launching the season with a five-game trip, never led in the game but managed to pull even at 2-2 early in the third period.
