The Ducks made their first move of the trade deadline season by sending a conditional 2nd round pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Dallas Stars forward Patrick Eaves.
The conditions of the pick are as follows: if the Ducks make it to the 3rd round of the playoffs (the Western Conference Finals) and if Eaves plays in more than 50% of the games in the first two rounds, the 2nd round pick will become the Ducks 1st round pick.
Eaves isn’t a flashy name like Matt Duchene or Gabriel Landeskog but he fills an important need for the Ducks up front: depth scoring.
