Around the clubs this weekend: Gallant, Cut Copy, Morris Day and many more

These are busy years for spacey, sad electronic soul music. But 23-year-old L.A. transplant Gallant still stands out in a crowded pack. Positive early looks at his indie EP “Zebra” helped the Valley dweller’s single “Weight in Gold” break through via Beats 1 upon the station’s launch. Though he’s managed by the team the helped the house-music producer Zhu breakthrough to the dance-music mainstream, Gallant’s face and presence is front and center in this project, and fans of the emotionally precise writing of Frank Ocean, big vocal runs of Sam Smith and the progressive electronic instrumentation of today’s laptop savants will have a lot to like when he plays Echoplex on Thursday night.
