Angels thump Rangers, 7-0; move to within 2 1/2 games of wild-card spot

Hector Santiago took a walk on the wild side Sunday, matching a career high by issuing six bases on balls, but the Angels left-hander somehow escaped unscathed.

Santiago helped himself out of jams by starting double plays to end the first and second innings, and he gave up only one hit in six innings to lead the Angels to a 7-0 victory over the Texas Rangers.

Mike Trout snapped the longest streak without a homer of his career with a solo shot to right field in the first inning, and the bottom three batters in the Angels order — David Freese, Carlos Perez and Taylor Featherston — combined for eight hits in 11 at-bats, five runs and two runs batted in.
