A year ago, Matt Shoemaker was making a push for American League rookie of the year, an award for which he was the runner-up.
Now, Shoemaker is marooned at triple-A Salt Lake, trying to fix a delivery that hadn't felt right from the beginning of the season. In the last two starts before the demotion, Shoemaker gave up 13 runs over 7 1/3 innings.
On Saturday, Shoemaker pitched six innings for Salt Lake, giving up two hits and two walks, and striking out five batters. He gave up three unearned runs in the sixth inning.
