Conor Gillaspie, who started at third base for the Angels on Saturday night after being acquired from the Chicago White Sox for cash on Friday, was a solid everyday player in 2014, batting .282 with seven homers and 57 runs batted in.
The 28-year-old struggled so much this past April — batting .196 in 15 games — that he was reduced to a part-time role by June and hitting .237 with three homers and 15 RBIs in 52 games when the White Sox designated him for assignment this month.
But when asked if he could put his finger on the difference between last season and this season, Gillaspie said, "No, not necessarily," because the reasons for his difficulties weren't that tangible.
