The Mustangs fired a team score of 12-under 276 to take a five-stroke lead following the opening 18 holes. Tulsa is in second place after day with at 7-under-par 281.
The average score on the first day of play at Southern Hills Plantation Club was 74.10 over the 50 completed rounds. A total of 19 of the 50 players in action in round one finished at par or better, including 15 under par showings.
