Memphis Wins American Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship on Penalties

TAMPA, Florida – Memphis claimed its second American Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship after winning a penalty shootout with South Florida, 3-0, Sunday, Nov. 7 at Corbett Soccer Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

The two teams were held scoreless after 110 minutes behind outstanding goalkeeping performances by Memphis’ Elizabeth Moberg (seven saves) and South Florida’s Sydney Martinez (six saves).

Moberg, the tournament’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player, made two saves in the penalty shootout, while Tanya Boychuk and Saorla Miller converted to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. After South Florida’s third attempt went high, Jocelyn Alonzo scored to clinch the title for Memphis.
