Safety Maurice Smith's revolving door with the Miami Dolphins brought him back to the NFL team on Wednesday, and he didn't have to go through the practice squad this time.
When the Dolphins put linebacker Chase Allen on injured reserve on Wednesday, Miami filled his spot on the active roster by re-signing Smith. The Dolphins had waived Smith on Monday.
This will be Smith's third stint on Miami's active roster this season.
When the Dolphins reduced their 90-player preseason roster to the regular-season limit of 53 on Sept. 1, Smith made the cut.
