Gus Malzahn's version of a Wing-T offense was once lauded as a solution to physically dominant opposing defenses. It worked against Alabama Football in 2010, 2013, and, aided by a strong defensive performance, it worked again in 2017.
It was Malzahn's penchant for gimmickry that gained the most attention. Trick plays, spread offense variations, and 'Hurry Up - No Huddle' earned Malzahn the reputation as an offensive wizard. There is no question that he pushed the boundaries of college football in productive ways. Also true is that offensive linemen, often five to ten yards downfield on passing plays, aided Malzahn greatly.
