Not just 5 yards this time: Alabama’s Tony Brown DQ’d for false start at track nationals

On the football field, a false start means a 5-yard penalty. In track, though, it doesn’t, and that ended the season of Alabama’s Tony Brown.

Brown, the Crimson Tide defensive back and sprint star, saw his USA Track and Field championships end Thursday night in Sacramento, Calif., when he was disqualified from his opening heat in the men’s 100 meters for a false start.

No 5-yard backup or yellow flag at this event: Jump the gun and you’re gone.

After getting ejected for targeting in last season’s Iron Bowl against Auburn, Brown has gotten an early exit from two of his biggest events, in two sports, in the past seven months.
