Nick Saban says he’d start Cooper Bateman if Alabama played today

Nick Saban says redshirt junior Cooper Bateman is the current frontrunner in Alabama’s quarterback competition, according to a tweet from ESPN.com’s Chris Low.

Bateman reportedly has been outperforming Alabama quarterback contenders Blake Barnett, David Cornwell and Jalen Hurts during practice drills this spring.

Saban reiterated the race for the quarterback job is “far from over,” adding that Hurts has been good enough this spring “to at least be in the conversation.”
