DeVonta Smith was a part of one of the best college football wide receiver rooms of all time when he was at Alabama, taking the field alongside Jerry Jeudy, Jaylen Waddle and Henry Ruggs.
Smith went on to win the Heisman Trophy, but when all four of them were at Alabama, it was almost impossible to guard every one of them on a particular play, leading to multiple scores every game.

In an interview with Patrick Surtain II and Terrion Arnold on their podcast “Closed on Sundays with Pat and Terrion”, Smith said that Nick Saban would get tired of the offense scoring so quickly that he’d tell them to run the ball to give the defense time to rest.
