One of the biggest questions facing Kalen DeBoer and Alabama football heading into the first scrimmage of fall camp is whether Austin Mack and/or Keelon Russell can mount a serious challenge to Ty Simpson in the Crimson Tide's QB battle. Because, as of now, it hasn't felt like much of a competition at all.
All indications have been that Simpson is well ahead of the challengers, and something major would have to happen over the next three weeks before the season opener against Florida State in Tallahassee for that to change.
When discussing the QB competition, most have ignored Mack and assumed that if anyone was going to mount a challenge to wrestle the starting job away from Simpson, it would be the 5-star freshman phenom.
