Former Alabama linebacker Eryk Anders bloodied Lyoto Machida on Saturday night, but suffered his first MMA loss in a split decision in the main event of UFC Fight Night 125.
Fighting in Machida's hometown of Belem, Brazil, Anders dropped a split decision in a five-round middleweight bout. While Anders won 48-47 on one of the cards, the other two judges scored the fight for Machida 48-47 and 49-46.
Anders' MMA record dropped to 10-1 after his third UFC fight.
A former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Machida improved to 23-8.
