“The team had been 2-8 the year before (2007),” Ramsey told me on a recent visit I made to the school. “(The coach of the middle school team) Pat Dunlap would every so often mention this kid Derrick. I was like, ‘that’s great, there’s a nice little middle school kid, that’s awesome. We’re trying not to go 0-10 here next year man! You’re telling me about some 7th grader.’”
It didn’t take Ramsey long to realize what all the fuss was about.
