Barrett Jones signs with NFL team, leaving Bears' practice squad

Former Alabama All-American Barrett Jones has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, leaving the Chicago Bears' practice squad for an active NFL roster. The Eagles announced Jones' signing on Monday afternoon.

Philadelphia released center/guard Julian Vandervelde to make room for Jones, who plays the same positions.

The signing reunited Jones with Jeff Stoutland, his offensive-line coach at Alabama in 2011 and 2012. Stoutland left the Crimson Tide to become Philadelphia's offensive-line coach. Ed Marynowitz, who is the Eagles' vice president of player personnel, served as Alabama's director of player personnel from 2008 through 2011.
