Alabama women's tennis falls to Clemson

The NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional final started with a shocker Saturday for the 13th-seeded University of Alabama women's tennis team.

It ended with a gritty comeback attempt that fell short, as No. 21 Clemson defeated the Crimson Tide 4-2 at Alabama Tennis Stadium. Clemson (18-9) advances to the NCAA Tournament round of 16 in Waco, Texas. Alabama ended its season with an 18-8 record.

At the start of the afternoon, the Crimson Tide's No. 1-ranked, defending national champion doubles team of Erin Routliffe and Maya Jansen was upset by Clemson's fourth-ranked duo, Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Rompies, who won 8-2.
