Alabama comes up short against Houston

The University of Alabama had been searching for offense since March began. For a minute, it was on the verge of breaking through.

Alabama loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, but couldn't come through and lost 3-2 to Houston on Saturday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Cody Henry grounded into a fielder's choice where the first baseman threw home for a force out, and the inning ended on a pop fly in foul territory from Chandler Avant.

The No. 21 Cougars (8-5) held off No. 23 Alabama (10-4) to take the weekend series before today's finale.
