Coach Avery Johnson may have found a sleeper hit from right down the road in Birmingham. Belarus native Dmitry Rivny has reportedly been in the United States less than a year and fell through the recruiting cracks. So much so, that 247sports, Rivals and ESPN don’t even have a profile for him.
Rivny played for Birmingham’s Central Park Christian, alma mater of former Tide player Tony Mitchell. The graduating senior basically went unnoticed until he participated in an event called the Southern Spring Invitational earlier this month at BJCC and had spectators scurrying for their smartphones to look up this 6’8” strong forward.
