AKRON, Ohio — While most college kids are resting at home following final exams, 45 members of the University of Akron football team spent all day Wednesday volunteering at the Haven of Rest (East Market Street), the area's homeless shelter.
The student-athletes, along with offensive line coach Brett Ekkens, strength & conditioning coach Matt Gildersleeve and his staff, landscaped the property and readied the gardens for planting.
"It's a great experience to help the people of Akron and give back," said junior LB Ulysees Gilbert (Ocala, Fla.
